Keeping Up with Keto

Anyone who’s ever been on a ketogenic (keto) diet knows how hard it is to resist the temptation of your favorite foods. That being said, the immense health benefits—such as weight loss, reduced cholesterol levels, and better blood pressure—typically outweigh the devil on our shoulder nudging us toward our most beloved pasta dish and scoop (or three) of ice cream. 

But the keto diet doesn’t prevent us from enjoying all of the wonderfully delicious foods. After all, meat, fish, and of course, cheese, are just a few of the keto-friendly foods that make most people’s taste buds excited and happy.

So, in the spirit of celebrating all the great foods we can enjoy on the keto diet, we’ve got one of our tastiest end of summer meals that’ll keep your palate pleased and your keto diet in check all the way through September. The best part? Even if you’re not keto, you can (and will!) still enjoy this classic, zesty dish.

Even with the end of summer approaching, there is still time for some good grilling. So as we enter the latter half of this beautiful season, take some time to heat up the grill and make keto-friendly steak kabobs topped with buttery Jarlsberg. 


  • 8 ounces top sirloin steak
  • 1 Jarlsberg wedge (cubed—add to kabobs after grilling)
  • ½ red onion
  • 1 yellow bell pepper (diced)
  • Fresh chopped parsley (for garnish)


  • ¼ cup soy sauce or coconut amino
  • 1 tbsp hot sauce of any kind
  • 2 tbsps olive oil
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Fresh cracked black pepper



  1. Combine all marinade ingredients (except for the Jarlsberg) in a bowl. Slice the steak into 1-inch cubes so that there are 12–16 pieces. Add diced steak to the marinade and toss to coat. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, stirring halfway.
  2. Drain steak from marinade. Soak wooden skewers in water and load them by alternating between ingredients. Arrange the kabobs on a plate before grilling.
  3. Grill the steak kabobs for 2–3 minutes, flip the skewers, and grill for another 2–3 minutes until the desired doneness and the vegetables are slightly charred.
  4. Transfer to a platter. Add Jarlsberg cheese to each kabob and sprinkle fresh chopped parsley and more black pepper on top. Garnish with lime slices. Enjoy with salad, pita bread, butter rice, or grilled veggies!
