The History

Snøfrisk was launched at the Olympic Games at Lillehammer in 1994.

One of the most comprehensive development projects in the history of the Norwegian dairy industry lies behind Snøfrisk. Thanks to innovative product development and carefully planned product launches in Norway, England and Germany during the winter Olympics in 1994, this new cream cheese became an international brand from day one.

It all started with a market survey carried out in both Norway and abroad. The results of the survey revealed an increasing demand for pure and natural products with no artificial additives and with a focus on values associated with their place of origin. The reports also revealed that Europeans viewed Norway as a country that was typically associated with goats.

Snøfrisk = Snow fresh

This resulted in Snøfrisk, a fresh, slightly tart, unripe cream cheese originating from the Norwegian countryside. The triangular packaging evokes visions of mountains with grazing goats, and the word ‘snø’ (snow) evokes associations with both snow-white mountain tops and to the colour of the cheese. Because goat’s milk contains no yellow pigments, goat’s milk products have a stark white colour – as white as snow.

The name Snøfrisk /Snow fresh/ was chosen because it has a good ring to it in German, English and Norwegian, and the stroke through the Norwegian vowel ‘ø’ was made less definable to make it easier for foreigners to understand.
